Carol M. Highsmith’s Pictures of Dogs Show Love of Canines Across America

Carol Highsmith, a noted photographer, has traveled around the country to photograph all of 50 states of America. Her donation of thousands of images to the Library of Congress created the Carol M. Highsmith Archive, an amazing representation of our beautiful land. The photos are copyright free, and the rights have been bestowed to the American people to use. Among Highsmith’s work are some great photographs of dogs at play, dog-inspired art, and more – the whole of the work showing the love and companionship that dogs give us. Enjoy this look at dogs across America throughout the lens of a renowned photographer whose work has appeared in National Geographic, Smithsonian and more.

Woman and her frolicking dog on the beach in Ventura, California

This gorgeous photo was taken in 2013 at sunset in Ventura, California. It comes from the   The Jon B. Lovelace Collection of California Photographs in Carol M. Highsmith’s America Project, Library of Congress, Prints and Photographs Division. The standout element of this photograph is the way the dog and woman’s shadow in captured in the water.
