Maintenance is a major factor when determining which pet breed is for you. Although some people may not mind a dog that is prone to more health problems, others prefer dogs that would be considered low maintenance. These are the dogs that are considered easiest to care for.

The Boston Terrier

The Boston Terrier is a medium purebred that is loads of fun. The dog needs regular exercise, but is known for being healthy and trainable. The dog is gentle and friendly. It is easy to train because of its intelligent and affectionate nature.

Miniature Bull Terrier

The always-loyal terrier made the cut again with the Miniature Bull, the courageous medium dog that exhibits great independence and playfulness. The miniature Bull needs lots of exercise. It does not need regular grooming or trips to the vet. The Bull enjoys agility and competition, so the dog is ideal to train for appearances in shows and other events.

German Pinscher

The German Pinscher is an active dog who just needs exercise and challenges to be happy and healthy. The Pinscher is intelligent and affectionate, which makes it fun to train. The dogs are excellent hunters. These dogs come in black, tan, blue, brown and red.

Another great low maintenance dog is the Schipperke, a small purebred that originates in Belgium. This dog is relatively rare, but it is energetic, friendly and intelligent. The dogs like obedience training, agility and other activities which allow it to perform.

The Spinone Italiano is an Italian purebred which also is known as the Italian Griffon and the Italian Wire-Haired Pointer. It is known for its affectionate and friendly nature. Other than frequent exercise, the breed is known to be healthy and multi-faceted. Due to its interest in pointing, retrieving and tracking, the dog is prized by hunters.

Rottweiler

The popular Rottweiler is a hardy breed with good stock. The dog is calm and even-keeled. The breed occasionally gets a bad name due to bad owners, but its natural traits make it an excellent guard dog who rarely shows aggressive behaviors. The Rottweiler is intelligent and has no genetic health problems.

The Dachshund is a popular pup known for its sociability. The dogs come in red, silver, blue, white, brown, tan and black. They need exercise to ensure they do not gain too much weight. The Great Dane is a wonderful (and large!) companion. It is loving, social and intelligent. Its gentle nature means it interacts with everyone in a calm and friendly manner. It has few health problems. It enjoys exercise and is a great dog with children.

Miniature Schnauzer

If you aren’t hip to the Miniature Schnauzer, it’s time to get familiar with this fun-loving and rough and tumble breed. The small German purebred is alert, playful and intelligent. It loves to exercise and is open to training and obedience.
