Where the Breed Originates
Have you ever heard of the breed known as Bouvier Des Flandres? This dog is a breed that originated in Flanders and on the French Nothern Plain, with monks at the Ter Duinen monastery being one of the earliest known breeders. The dog and was bred to work the farms. Its tireless endurance and stocky build, coupled with its thick coat made it ideal for even harsh conditions. It would pull carts, herd, help churn butter and more. You could say the Bouvier Des Flandres was a furry farmhand that was indispensible in its early days. Even today, you can still find it on a farm. The breed was officially recognized by the AKC in 1931 and comes in five colors: black, brindle, fawn, gray brindle, and pepper salt. Other colors may be possible, however, these are the standard.
