Rin Tin Tin
Known for his heroics on screen, Rin Tin Tin was rescued off a World War I battlefield by Lee Duncan, an American soldier. After training the dog, Rinty, Duncan was able to get the dog work as a silent film star, and the dog went on to appear in 27 movies. It was a long road, however, before they got there, as they went to dog shows before the dog became a star. There Rinty was able to show off an amazing leap of nearly 12 inches. This was after the dog’s leg was broken and he was in recovery for 9 months! His first film was Where the North Begins, and Rinty appeared as Rin Tin Tin in the credits. Rin Tin Tin passed away in 1932, and the loss felt in America and the world was huge as newspapers ran obituaries for the famous dog, and the death even resulted in a news bulletin.
